The Public Inquiry

T he public Inquiry into the Try Homes application to develop the Campion site was held 19th -26th June. The three parties to the Inquiry (Try Homes, Hounslow Council and Campion Concerns) all presented their Statements of Case and their Evidence before the start of the Inquiry. You can see our Evidence here.

The Inquiry was hard work. We took two crates of papers with us every day and all these papers had to be organised so that we could access any document mentioned instantly. We had all the documents required and managed to keep up with the proceedings at all stages. We took part in cross-examining Try Homes' witnesses and finally we were cross-examined ourselves by the counsel for the developer.

On the last day there was some haggling over monies that would be paid to the Council and conditions that would be imposed if the development were to be approved by the Inspector. After that each party read their closing statements to the Inquiry. We went first and ours took thirty minutes. Then it was the turn of the Council and finally that of the developer. Their statements each took one hour to read. You can read our Closing Statement here. Some of it may not make complete sense since it refers to documents presented to the Inquiry. On the other hand it should give you a good idea of the sort of case we put.

The Inspector released his report on 18th July. He dismissed the Try Homes appeal and gave a series of reasons for doing so which vindicated the main arguments we put throughout our campaign against an inappropriate development proposal. The Report is available here. It is eleven pages long and is well worth reading. If you don't have time to read the full report our Newsletter No.15 gives some highlights from it.
